Traffic and plate capture

Plates at speed, not on request.

Highway and parking models, from a 4K fixed unit to a dedicated capture camera.

Four traffic jobs

Plate capture is an optics and timing problem before it is a software problem. Each scene has its own model in the line.

ParkingEntrance and exit

4K plate capture at the barrier, where the vehicle stops and the light can be controlled.

HighwayLane capture

A dedicated capture camera for lanes where the plate crosses the frame in a fraction of a second.

RoadRoad monitoring

Wide scene with a 1/1.8 inch sensor, for junctions and site roads rather than plates alone.

Plate capture depends on shutter, angle and illumination. Send a photo of the lane and the speed limit before choosing the model.

Four things that break plate capture

None of them are fixed by a better camera, which is why the site survey comes first.

01The angle

Plates read within a narrow horizontal and vertical window. A camera on the wrong side of a barrier misses half the traffic.

02The shutter

Motion blur at 30 to 60 km/h is a timing problem. Long exposure cannot be fixed in software.

03The lights

Headlights at night blow out the plate. IR or white light at the right angle is what makes the read.

04The plate itself

Dirty, tilted, or non reflective plates fail on any camera. Set the acceptance rate with the operator.

What to send with the enquiry

Four items that let me quote a working system rather than a camera.

  • The lane photo from the proposed camera position, at night if possible.
  • Speed limit and the direction traffic crosses the frame.
  • Where the read goes: barrier control, a VMS, or an operator screen.
  • Plate standard, since character sets and sizes differ by country.
